The concept of Be Your Best Manager evolved around 10 years ago when I was working in a large corporate as HR Director. I found it fascinating that depending on the leader and managers within a particular business unit, it would either succeed and thrive or start to fail.
Around this time, the business also had a strategy to stop accepting mediocrity and to start facing into performance management – something that hadn’t necessarily been done very well previously.
Why did some leaders and managers have happy, motivated and successful teams, whereas others had stressed, de-motivated and unproductive teams - with sickness and high turnover becoming the norm?
Our employee engagement survey was able to help with the answers and it became apparent that we had an issue with having well rounded managers and leaders. Given that our people were our product, and we knew having the best people was a given, this was something that needing addressing and quickly.
I could see that the managers were working with the new people strategy we had in place around performance management, and we were facing into issues which would have previously been pushed under the carpet. However, what we weren’t doing was giving our people a fully rounded people management experience where they were treated as individuals, with the manager getting under their skin to understand their aspirations and motivations – then pushed and challenged in a positive manner with a safe haven, where care and support were also provided.
Hence the development of the people management programme, which then went on to win awards and accolades from top industry bodies.
Now, ten years later, my mission is to provide a framework that will allow managers to understand their own skills and strengths, developing themselves to become the best people manager they can be – in order to uncover potential and maximise performance and success with highly engaged and committed teams.
I drive change and improvement via Be Your Best Manager - a powerful and compelling program, focusing on enhancing the skills of individuals in direct line management roles to unlock the potential, drive results and cultivate high performing individuals and teams.
Following a successful corporate career, I am keen to provide a service that is able to cut through red tape and give clear, concise and credible support.
In 2017, I launched Ignite Your Talent, specialising in leadership development and performance coaching, with clients including The Trafford Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome and Ernst & Young.
Prior to this, I spent 27 years working in leadership and people roles for Omnicom Group - a global leader in marketing communications, brand and advertising services; with my final 8 years as HR Director at CPM.
Here, I was responsible for the concept, creation and delivery of the culture changing and award winning ‘My Manager’ programme, initially internally at CPM and then in my position of business director for Sales Academy rolling the programme out across teams in blue chip organisations in the UK, Europe and Australia.
I have a passion for working with people, supporting them to unlock their potential and be their best. My qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience, along with my ability to really understand individuals earned me the nickname of ‘People Ninja’ - a name that I’m proud to be associated with!
I believe that building trust and establishing a good, honest and open working partnership is key when engaging in relationships with my clients, that way we can get to the heart of any challenges and work together to unlock potential and drive success.
